Nineteen Years Later

Once upon a time, I thought my little sister didn't want to read. In order to bribe her to get reading, I promised her a drawing every time she finished a Harry Potter book, thinking it would take her a nice long while before she made too much progress for me to keep up with. I was very, very mistaken. In just over a year, the nine year old had completely finished the series, and was impatiently waiting for her drawings. Finally, I got around to the last drawing, so here it is!

And voila, the last of seven drawings!

Congratulations to my baby sister on becoming the biggest bookworm I know, and a very happy 10th birthday!

Television Sketches

These days, I seem to be sitting around mostly, waiting for school to start, or for something interesting to happen. Naturally, I end up watching plenty of television. Presently, catching up on seasons upon seasons of Buffy. The problem is that Buffy, like most TV shows for that matter, doesn't occupy my mind as much as I need it to. Keeping my hands busy tends to work, and my favorite way of keeping my hands busy is drawing. Thus, my most common activity becomes watching television and sketching away.
Reject concept for Illustration Friday's "Rescue"
Maybe all the punching and staking and romance in Buffy affects my drawings more than I realized.
Occasionally, when lacking inspiration, I'll end up drawing (hey, a pun!) on the episodes I'm watching. It's fun to try and catch moments or snippets from the screen, especially when the actors are all just so darn pretty! Veronica Mars and Grey's anatomy inspired a whole slew of mouth sketches, sort of a study.

I think lips and hands are my new favorite parts of the human anatomy to draw.
Not noses, though, noses are just bizarre.

Illustration Friday: Sweet

Someone's got a bit of a sweet tooth!

I promise, one of these days, I'll put up a non-IF related post. Where would this blog be without Illustration Friday?

Illustration Friday: Tension

I've posted this piece once before, in a post with a lot of pictures of this sort, but when I saw this week's IF topic, I couldn't think of anything more appropriate. This is definitely one of my older pieces, and maybe I'll redo it and build it as a series, but I love the feel of this picture.
Growing up with all that tension, can you imagine what it's like when they're older?

Illustration Friday: Farewell

"Farewell, farewell!
 One kiss, and I'll descend."

For Illustration Friday's "farewell" theme, the most tragic farewell I can think of.
Also, the most whiny.

Illustration Friday: Yesterday

First submmission to Illustration Friday!
Maybe something along the lines of...did you hear what happened yesterday?

Blue Lagoon

Sometimes, I get distracted.

Usually my distractions are completely unproductive, but on occasion, it's due to an excess of creative ideas luring me away from what I should be doing.  This makes my procrastinating slightly more productive, but that much harder to resist.
This time, it was a mermaid. A little paper mermaid hiding behind a waterfall and calling me away from everything I knew I really should be taking care of. So, naturally, I went after the mermaid -

starting with a papercut waterfall...
 messing with the lighting...
 trying out a fluorescent...
and voila!

Maybe putting off constructive work isn't all bad.

That was a terrible moral of the story. Bad bad bad.
Get back to work, Shana.

Ice Cream For Two

Ink on paper, effects and color in Adobe Photoshop CS3
Another old fashioned photograph style piece. Anyone for a milkshake?
